Diabetes Management 101

Diabetes is an insidious disease. If you have it you should take care of yourself to prevent side effects that could be dangerous. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes it means your body no longer has the capacity to process sugar. This makes your blood sugar levels rise and makes it necessary to use medication, diet and exercise to lower it. Read on for more information about diabetes.

Those who have Type 1 diabetes need to be extremely careful with their weight. It is critical to keep it under control and exercise regularly. This increases the glucose in the muscles, which will lower the blood sugar level. Type 1diabetes can be prevented but fortunately, you can take steps to lessen your chances of becoming a Type 2 diabetic.

Scientists haven’t conclusively proven a link between the prevention of the onset of Type 2 diabetes and exercise but there is significant anecdotal evidence that it works.

When you exercise it helps to maintain insulin sensitivity. You’ll find that just 30 minutes of exercise will do much to decrease your chances of getting Type 2 diabetes. I’m not talking about training like an Olympian, just a brisk walk each day would be enough.

If you’re suffering from the side effects of diabetes you’ll be pleased to know that regular exercise can lessen their impact. For example, circulatory disorders and blood pressure can be improved significantly through exercise.

When you start exercising you have to take care of what your body is feeling. It’s easy to succumb to hypoglycemia. If you’re planning on doing strenuous exercise be sure to bring along a piece of fruit or sweets in case you start feeling poorly.

Be aware of any signs such as perspiring, raised heart rate and breathlessness. It can be a sign that your blood sugar is low.

There is virtually nothing bad to say about exercise. Done in moderation at regular intervals, exercise will improve your health and frame of mind. If you’re a diabetic it can be particularly beneficial and even reduce or eliminate your need for medication.
