11 Key Facts You Must Read To Reduce Cholesterol

There are two main types of cholesterol: High Density Lipoproteins (HDL), known as good cholesterol and Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL), this is known as bad cholesterol.

LDL is the type of cholesterol that will attach itself to the walls of your arteries as plaque and can cause serious consequences to your health, notably the health of you heart.

HDL helps the body rid itself of LDL. It actively carries the bad LDL away from the walls of the arteries and transports it back to the liver.

You also possess what is known as Very Low Density Lipoproteins (VLDL) and triglycerides. These will take surplus fat that you glean from your diet when drinking too heavily or eating too fatty a diet for example and store them in the fat cells of your body.

To maintain a healthy body you must reduce the amount of cholesterol you consume and store in your body to prevent serious health concerns; primarily heart disease.

The result of too much cholesterol will be a nasty build up of plaque on the walls of your arteries, which in turn will restrict the blood flow around your body. Eventually, if not dealt with, your arteries will harden, this is called atherosclerosis. Again, this will eventually lead to heart disease.

If your arteries close up completely, blood will be prevented from reaching areas of your body. This will include your heart and the result of this will be a cardiac arrest.

Eating unhealthily is the primary cause of high cholesterol, however, it is not the only one. Consequently, in order to reduce cholesterol, it is imperative to consume a healthy, low cholesterol diet.

Unfortunately, some people are genetically disposed to having high cholesterol. Their body may simply make too much and they will find it significantly more difficult to reduce cholesterol by diet alone. These people may have to seek alternative, possibly medical help.

After menopause, women face a greater risk of having high cholesterol then before. Furthermore, as you age, your risk also increases.

Don’t ignore your cholesterol, get your level checked by a doctor and start to reduce cholesterol today. High cholesterol has a terrible effect on millions of people every year and it is simply not something to be ignored.
